Fly - The SouthWest Airlines Style

Years ago, the American airline industry was dominated by giants such as American Airlines, Continental and United just to name a few. With the number of planes flying in and out from various airports around the country, passengers started experiencing some problems.

The prices of flights were expensive, flights are delayed and customer service has changed. Realizing the opportunity, two people namely Mr. Rollin King and Herb Kelleher decided to pull some money together to put up an airline. This company is known to day as SouthWest Airlines.

In the years that followed, this small company based in Texas is giving the airline companies a run for the money. It gets to fly more than 50 million passengers a year to more than 60 cities all over the country. There are over 3,000 flights a day that go from one destination to the next.

The fleet consists of 436 aircraft that have served an average of 9 years. The planes have different logos and designs on it to commemorate special events in history and to give special mention to some of the nation’s finest states.

In 1988, this company was awarded for being the best airline company in terms of baggage handling, the fewest customer complaints and punctual departure record. This is what formed the company more than 30 years ago and getting that recognition from peers was a dream come true. Being given this prestigious award did not happen just once but has happened more than 30 times.

This company has given some firsts in the airline industry. It is the first to offer its passengers a frequent flyer program which can be redeemed for free flights in the future. This can also be earned from flying in other airlines that have a tie-up with the company.

It offers special discounts to senior citizens. Each flight has games and prizes that are given away to passengers making each trip a fun-filled one for everyone to enjoy. This airline is also one of the first companies to be registered in the New York Stock Exchange.

Southwest airlines has truly created a name for itself. Its well trained staff of more than 31,000 people have been praised and awarded by passengers for the excellent service that has been performed onboard each flight.

Some people have regarded this airline as “the love airline.” This is because the airline started in a place called Dallas Love Field in Texas which continues to operate to this day.

Though this company only flies locally, it has tie-ups with other flag carriers making passengers reach certain destinations where these companies can’t. It also offers ticketless travel and a one day air freight delivery service to any of its destinations.

A recent survey has shown that local travel in the United States has more than doubled over the past few years. Estimates show that this will grow further in the next 10 years despite the increase in ticket prices due to the price of oil in the world market.

SouthWest airlines is aware of these and plan to grow further and face these headstrong. By continuing to serve its commitment of being on time, giving affordable fairs and providing the best customer service that anyone can ask for in the sky, this airline will truly be a contender of being the best airline company in Northwest America.
