Philippine Airline: Asia’s Sunniest
The end of the second world war brought a lot of destruction in Southeast Asia. It was a time to rebuild and also for troops to go home. Military transport planes assisted the large number of ships to do this which made the journey quicker.
This operation was the beginning of something new. It was the birth of Philippine airlines. The fleet which consisted of military transport planes converted to civilian use became the airline in Southeast Asia.
The task of bringing the troops home made this company the first airline ever in Asia to fly across the Pacific Ocean to the United States.
Less than 10 years later, this company was able to acquire new planes. Propelled airplanes were changed to those that had jet engines. This allowed the company to fly faster, carry more passengers and cargo to places in Europe. As the company continued to prosper, the airline started flying to countries in the Middle East and other parts of Asia.
For more than 40 years, this company was a government owned enterprise. It had a monopoly in local air travel and no other airline existed to compete with it. When problems in its finances almost led to its bankruptcy and closure, something had to be done. The airline, the first ever to exist in Asia was privatized.
The privatization of the local airline industry opened the opportunity for new players to come in. More than 3 companies have been established which has really given Philippine airlines a run for its money. The restructuring campaign which the company is still undergoing has allowed it purchase new planes and keeps its edge in the local market.
For the airline to thank and reward its passengers for the continued patronage through the years, it has a frequent flyer program that gives customers free flights.
Companies and other individuals who fly with the airline often can purchase tickets in bulk which is cheaper than buying it by ticket. It also has tie-ups with various hotels nationwide to give its citizens and those who have come home from abroad vacation packages to enjoy.
The internet has given passengers the opportunity to book flights by logging on to the company’s website without having to go to any office. Information about flights, promos and other information that a customer would like to inquire on can also acquired through SMS.
The idea for the design of the tail fin on the aircraft symbolizes the Philippine flag. This company which has its share of firsts in the aircraft travel continues to grow. The excellent service of the crew and staff is part of the company’s commitment to make this airline Asia’s sunniest.
The fleet is composed of planes from the two biggest aircraft manufacturers in the world namely Airbus and Boeing. This has given the company the proper equipment and facilities to fly passengers to 19 cities nationwide and 26 countries worldwide.
Recent studies have predicted that the number of people who fly will double in the next ten years. Despite the increase in oil prices, passengers will still do this because it is the fastest way to get from one destination to the other.
Philippine airlines is committed to rise to this challenge. It will continue to modernize its existing fleet and fly passengers to more destinations.
