Northwest Airlines’ Unique Offerings for a World-Class Customer Experience
An airline that started its operations by transporting air mail in 1926, Northwest Airlines grew to become the fourth biggest airline in the world today. With its travel affiliates around the globe, NWA now flies to over 750 destinations in 120 countries throughout the world. NWA has about 400 aircrafts servicing passengers including Boeing 747s and 757s for their international flights.
Northwest Airline is truly committed in providing excellent customer service by making the whole process of booking a flight to the actual flight itself stress-free for the passengers. NWA was the first in the industry to provide self-service products to their customers for easy access to the details of their flights. The airline company made this possible by putting up electronic kiosks in airports which allow customers with e-tickets get their boarding passes, make changes on their seat reservation, and, for some kiosks, check-in their bags. This eliminates having to wait in line for a long time especially during peak seasons. Moreover, customers originating from the 15 cities in the airline’s Asia network can also get their boarding pass over the internet.
The airline’s World Business Class is available on all its intercontinental flights using the 747 and A330 aircrafts. It boasts of the extra comfort and convenience to the customers with their spacious, lie-flat seats, great meals, personalized entertainment, and a truly first-class service. Their First Class on domestic flights and Economy Class are just about average compared to other airlines.
Other in-flight service Northwest Airline provides is its onboard duty-free shopping. There are several products available in their shop like jewelries, cosmetics, perfumes, children’s items, liquor, tobacco, and more. And since it is duty free, passengers get to enjoy up to 50% savings from the local retail prices. NWA also has snack boxes that can be purchased for as low as $3 which contain crackers, cookies and other snacks to munch on during the flight. And, of course, entertainment should always be present on all flights. Business Class passengers have the benefit of having the airline’s personalized entertainment. These passengers can choose the movie they want. Nevertheless, Economy Class passengers also get to enjoy good movies in their cabin.
In the airline’s website, www.nwa.com, one can choose his desired flight, book online and purchase electronic tickets. The website also provides step-by-step instructions on all the processes for a hassle-free travel experience. Customers can get a lot of useful information about their flight by visiting the airline’s website. Also, frequent flyers of NWA can also access their account from the website to check their earned miles or redeem rewards. Called the Northwest Airline’s WorldPerks, this frequent flyer program was voted as the most popular in the United States by TIME Asia readers.
With all the good products and services mentioned above, there still are people who find the airline a not-so-good one. It is really true that not everyone can be pleased. Though there are several good reviews about the airline, there are still a number of people who expressed their unsatisfying experience with the company. Maybe there really are bad times for the company and they may want to consider improving on these situations and learning from them to be able to provide superior service all the time. After all, that is what the airline promises to its customers – to provide superior customer experience before, during, and after the flight.
