Flight Reservations You Deserve: Tips on Getting the Best Deal for Your Next Flight

Perhaps the idea seems improbable, especially if the only experiences you’ve had with air travel only involved headaches and last-minute fixes that cost more than you’ve anticipated. But traveling by air can be a stress-free, if not pleasant, experience if you take the proper measures to ensure a smooth ride.

One of those first few measures involves knowing how to go around making travel reservations with the airline of your choice. Making the right choice this early in planning can spell the difference between a successful trip and a stressful one.

Tip # 1
Book your flights as early as you can. This, of course, only works with trips that you’ve planned way in advance. Obviously, you can’t do this with spur-of-the-moment trips. That’s why airline companies are able to charge higher rates on reservations made a day or two before the flight compared to those booked a month in advance.

Tip # 2
Shop around. Competition among airline companies is stiffer than ever, which is a good thing for you as a traveler. Going online makes it easy for you to compare prices from different airlines offering the flight you want. Take note, though, that lower rates usually mean higher restrictions for your ticket. (More on these later.)

Tip # 3
Consult a travel agent. Although using travel websites are helpful in fielding ticket quotes, visiting a travel agent may very likely allow you access to rates you may not be able to avail of yourself on your own. If you are going to travel as a group, be sure to ask for group rates. Going to an agent, after all, should not cost you since agents earn their fees from commissions from the airline you decide to travel with.

Tip # 4
After deciding which flight you wish to book, be sure to be aware of all the restrictions on your reserved ticket, which is usually indicated on the confirmation slip or email sent to you. Restrictions are the limits set on what you can and cannot do with the ticket when it comes to issues like cancellations, transferability and / or refunds.

For example, although the ticket was purchased for practically a song, the restrictions may indicate that you waive refunds upon cancellations or that the ticket cannot be used by any other person except yourself. Take note of these restrictions in comparing prices as well.

Tip # 5
Similar to Tip # 1, if you absolutely must have to cancel or change travel details, do so at the earliest possible time. In as much as airlines offer discounts for early reservations, they also impose higher charges for ticket changes and / or late cancellations.

Tip # 6
Another advantage to booking early is being able to choose from a wider variety of seat placements. Although fairly the same, there are areas in the plane that offer either a smoother ride or more legroom. These specific requests can be given as early as two to three weeks before your scheduled flight.

Tip # 7
Two to three days before your flight, confirm your booking. Do this especially if you did not place the reservation yourself. Also keep the confirmation slip or email for reference should anything, like a missing reservation, ever come up. Don’t forget to mention the specifications you’ve given such as your preferred seating location.

The great thing about making reservations is that you are allowed the opportunity to make your travel experience as pleasant as possible by availing of the perks of affordability and comfort. So grab that chance and reserve smart to make your next flight a pleasant one.
